Our third edition of Borders comes from a very exciting producer, Veronica Mego, based in the Cutervo area of Cajamarca. We loved Veronica’s father, Elmer’s, washed lot a couple of years ago, and now she has taken over running the administration operations of the family farm. Since taking on this role, Veronica has continued growing a range of varietals on the thriving farm that was first planted in 2007.
For this lot, the washed coffee is fermented for 2 days in bags, then sundried for 15 days due to the cooler micro climate. We’re tasting creamy, puckering cherries and cranberries, delicious almond amaretti biscuits, and lots of those classic brown sugar and chocolate notes that make washed Peru’s some of our favourite coffees here at the roastery.

We started working with Veronica Mego, daughter of producer Elmer Mego, last year. Her farm is located around 5 hours’ drive from our warehouse in Jaen in the Santo Tomas, Cutervo area of Cajamarca, near Peru's first national park. In 2020, Veronica took over managing the administrative operations of the family farm business from her father. She handles coordination and planning while her father continues overseeing cultivation. Since taking on this role, Veronica has continued growing a range of varietals including pacamara, bourbon, catimor and caturra on the thriving farm that was first planted in 2007. As one of our top 10 suppliers by volume, Veronica runs the administrative side of the farm operation with her family and has already demonstrated great skill for the coffee business. For this lot, the washed coffee is fermented for 2 days in bags, then sun dried for 15 days due to the cooler micro climate. We're excited to continue partnering with Veronica and her dad. Last year, with help from our technical manager Jhoseari, we established a pricing model to stabilise Veronica's income and ensure a mutually beneficial supply relationship.
